I am a firm believer that you can only get so far
in certain times during your life without support.
Do not get me wrong, I am a fiercely independent
type of a person. I always thought that I could
do whatever I set my mind to, alone if necessary.
However, I have come to believe that this is a slightly
erroneous view. I look around me and see many talented,
enthusiastic, and skillful business people who feel
very alone and isolated. Some of these same people
make climbing the corporate ladder or achieving
goals harder than it needs to be. These are the
‘heroes’, the ultra-competitors, or
as I call them, the Alone Rangers. They are those
of us who are afraid to be human, afraid to show
any vulnerability and ask for support or help.
Particularly around transition and change, there
is generally a lot of fear and chaos. This is where
it is hard to operate at your peak on your own.
Think about the last time you were really stressed
or frightened…could you trust yourself to
perform at your best? It is times like these that
you are sailing into uncharted territory and wouldn’t
it be great to have a couple of extra rowers and
a brilliant navigator by your side? Isn’t
that just common sense and good management?
What I call a Career Coven can be that crew. You
are certainly still the captain of your own career,
but you have a crew of like-minded people to give
a variety of opinions, advice, and to have faith
in you when you do not. This is a crew that is happy
and without agenda helping you get to your destination.
A Career Coven is a group of people, as
few as two or as many as you feel comfortable with,
who get together on a regular basis to support each
other in achieving their career and business goals.
Some Career Covens meet fortnightly others monthly
or quarterly; how often and where you meet is up
to you and the group.
Should you be interested in joining an existing
Career Coven or obtaining Career Coven Guidelines
in order to start one, please contact me on at stacey@themodernwitch.com
or grab a copy of my book ‘There’s a
Witch in the Boardroom’. Twice a year I hold
Career Coven Workshops which outline the process
and offer coaching to ‘Boardroom Witches’,
at no cost to those who wish to come along. Again
contact me for dates and details or keep checking
our Workshop timetable.
