I think you can learn a lot about someone through asking them a selection of quick questions. Here are the answers I recently gave a journalist and I think it gives a snapshot of who I am:

My earliest memory is… Being shown my brother shortly after his birth. He had no eyebrows and looked ridiculously big. He was 11 pounds.

At school I… was a geek.

My first relationship was… with a tiny lizard in the backyard.

I feel most inspired… in nature.

I don’t like talking about… being “spiritual”, dude.

My most treasured possession is… my curiosity.

My father always told me… to oil my skin and watch out for Noahs (sharks) when I surf.

I wish I had… learnt how to ride horses as a child. It would have saved me a lot of fear later.

I wish I hadn’t… given up the javelin.

My most humiliating moment was… accidentally dropping a swear word whilst speaking to a large audience. I meant to say “Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt”. I didn’t say Hunt.

My happiest moment was… when I realized I was the leader of my own life.

At home I cook… huge cauldrons of soup.

My last meal would be… unnecessary. I would take a last horse ride instead.

My favourite gadget is… a brulee torch. You can light candles in a gale with one of these beauties.

I’m very bad at… mathematics. I think I’m numerically dyslexic. Really.

When I was a child I wanted to… be Batman.

The book that changed my life is… ”Women who Run with Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes

It’s not fashionable, but I love… the library.

Friends say I am… a Valkyrie.

The song I’d like played at my funeral is… played by a mariachi band.

My greatest fear is… having regrets.

If only I could… speak many languages.

The hardest thing I’ve ever done was… start my first book and transition out of a well paid but off-purpose corporate life.

The last big belly laugh I had was… at yoga. It was a tough move. Someone farted.

What I don’t find amusing is… fundamentalism of any kind, deliberate ignorance and the belief that humans are the ultimate and therefore can trash every other living thing at will.

I’m always being asked… how did you become a Witch?

Cat or dog? Both. My cats may poison my food and my dogs may pull me in front of a truck if I play favourites.

If I wasn’t me I’d like to be… Indiana Jones.

At the moment I’m listening to: my husband singing in the shower and my cats purring.

My favourite work of art is… the Nike of Somothrace (440BC). See her in Le Louvre in Paris

My worst job was… working for a drunken megalomaniac.

I often wonder… what is the speed of dark?
